Small Is Beautiful!
Is a microsanctuary right for you?
Most folks (including vegans) become acquainted with animal sanctuaries via well-known FARM sanctuaries, which often operate on old farm properties in the country.
But size is not what defines a sanctuary!
Vegans who wish to rescue and care for farmed and other exploited animals may not want or be able to run a farm sanctuary. In fact:
- Some folks may want to stay in cities or suburbs
- Some folks may have incomes and resources that can accommodate a few animals
- Some folks may not want to bother with fundraising or running an organization
- Some folks may prefer the intimate relationship of one or several residents to the dynamics of caring for dozens or hundreds
- Some folks may want to focus on one species
And that’s okay!
The vegan sanctuary movement thrives through more diversity and accessibility. A microsanctuary can be a great option for vegans who want to pursue activism through caregiving!
