Microsanctuary Resource Center is excited to announce that we are launching our Medical Care for All! fundraising campaign to make preventative and emergency medical care more accessible for residents of vegan sanctuaries of all sizes!
We’ll be running this campaign through the end of the year, and in the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some stories of individuals who have been helped by our grants for medical care.
Since 2016, our micro-grant program has offered micro-grants of $500 to individuals and $1,000 to nonprofit organizations to support the care of rescued animals. While some of these micro-grants have helped with infrastructure like housing, fencing, and other needs, many go towards medical care for residents in need. These types of expenses typically come in two forms:
- Preventative or planned medical procedures: these include reproductive healthcare such as spay/neutering for mammals or hormonal interventions for birds; non-reproductive surgeries and other procedures to address a medical issue; and supportive or palliative medical care, to name a few.
- Emergency medical treatments: Many times, sanctuaries are faced with urgent situations for residents as well as new intakes, such as broken bones or other injuries and acute internal disorders; these require quick attention by a medical professional, often to save an animal’s life.
The priority for MRC micro-grants is to improve the quality of life for sanctuary residents by providing vegan caregivers access to financial support that might not otherwise be available for species such as farmed animals, former sport or laboratory animals, and aquatic animals. Emergency, preventative, and planned medical care is a key part of this effort–especially because exploitative systems like animal agriculture minimize and even withhold critical medical care because it is not profitable.
In 2024, MRC provided 50 grants totaling $60,000 in funds for emergency and other medical care!
Now, we’re asking for your support to help us provide even more crucial funding to sanctuary and microsanctuary residents. Every donation to our Medical Care for All! fundraiser will fund future micro-grants for these important expenses, creating more opportunities to save lives and improve the quality of life for animals who have escaped exploitation.
