Misfits Coven became a microsanctuary in the fall of 2020, after I (Britt) rescued our first rooster resident, Bodhi, from an auction and our first bonded pair of rabbit residents, Runa and Finn, from slaughter. As a long time animal rights activist with a background of rescuing and fostering animals, I encountered several animals that needed help and safety; instead of continuing to take them to other sanctuaries and rescues that were already at capacity and overwhelmed, I decided to start our microsanctuary since I had the time, land access, and passion to care for them.

MRC directly inspired us in our founding and in our continued improvement of animal care and enrichment, especially for chickens. We have continued to grow slowly each year, and we earned 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2024. While still a small-scale operation, we’re always expanding our rescue efforts and community outreach in our rural community.

We are home to several species of residents, including: cows, chickens, rabbits, horses, ponies, cats, dogs, and a tortoise. We are also a foster haven to many diverse species when I have the resources, space, and time to assist.

My background is in horse caregiving and rescuing, but I have developed a passion for cow and chicken caregiving throughout the years. From there, I’ve had the privilege of caring for other species, so we prioritize continued education for species specific care and enrichment on our end.
