Grant Program Update: Indefinite Hiatus

After nearly 10 years in action, MRC’s microgrant program will be going on an indefinite hiatus soon. We will be accepting applications until July 31, 2026.

Soon after we began as The Microsanctuary Movement in 2015, we quickly recognized the need for grant opportunities for farmed animal sanctuaries, especially smaller sanctuaries and microsanctuaries.

Fundraising is always a challenge, and folks who are small and/or are not nonprofits can face additional barriers. Thanks to some wonderful early support, we received funding to make our microgrant program possible and gave out our first grant (for chicken reproductive healthcare!) in early 2016.

Since then, we’ve given out hundreds of grants to sanctuaries of all sizes, helping with medical care, infrastructure, and other projects.

We’ve been so happy to see the impact of our microgrants over the years, as well as to build relationships with vegan caregivers and rescuers of all stripes from all around the world.

We’d like to thank our amazing grantees, as well as everyone who has supported our work.

As for what’s next: We won’t be going away! MRC will still be working on educational resources, both on our own and via collaborations with other organizations. And we’ll continue to highlight the important work of vegan sanctuaries and microsanctuaries, especially amongst our incredible grantee community, who are the keepers of the vision for animal liberation.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us to build and spread the microsanctuary movement from its humble origins with two rescued hens.
